Hogtown Hash #1139
Hare: Mangina
Fox and Fiddle
On Monday, January 18, it was Mangina’s turn to confound and irritate the hash. He decided to set a trail before going away again, just to let us all know what he really thinks of us. Apparently, Mangina believes that if the army wanted him to have more than one piece of chalk, it would have issued him more than one piece of chalk.
; It was a bit of a sausage fest (well, Danish cocktail weenie fest), since only Venta and Helen Keller were there to soften the overwhelmingly masculine composition of the pack.
We started from the Fox and Fiddle on John Street. Right from the start, as soon as we followed the arrow across the street and ran down Richmond, a mini-pack of five or six of us was already left behind and lost. Nothing but a faint echo of Shadow yelling “on on” reverberated off the buildings, and then faded away, as did the rest of the pack.
; After five or ten minutes of aimless running about – picture headless chickens, but with less sense of purpose – we finally found some vestiges of trail heading east on King. COD led the way. By the time we stragglers hauled up Victoria, we finally caught up with the rest of the pack at Richmond. Then it was along Queen to University, up the street behind the U.S. Consulate (smile for the cameras), west on Dundas to the AGO, south on McCall, through Grange Park and heading on to Spadina. Keep in mind that most of these turnings were at the suggestion of the hare, rather than any substantive evidence on chalk marks on the ground. We got down to Queen, were finally directed through an alley probably none of us would have ever checked, then doubled back to Spadina. Poor COD lost the trail at just about the last (and worst) moment possible – about 300 yards from the beer check, at the Charlotte Room, a fancy-pants pool hall. He finally showed up back at the on on about 20 minutes after the rest of us – lost, forlorn, lonely and thirsty – though Hai Poo Gai did far more complaining.
